We’re heading into Spring, FINALLY! Also I’m working with you all on gorgeous spring photo sessions and offering a few select dates for Seattle Mini Sessions. These minis sell out every season and I often receive questions about what’s the different between a mini session and full one.

Here’s a refresher guide to help!

  1. COST: Minis are more affordable and are great if you just want a “bite” of a photo session. As a fellow parent, I get it so that’s why I offer minis during the fall and generally spring or summer. My full portraits are an investment and I take extra time and care to make sure they are worth it.

  2. LENGTH OF TIME: Most photographers who offer minis will offer them from 15 to 20 minutes long. These are meant to be super quick and for easy life updates, like Christmas/Holiday cards or a Mother’s Day gifts. If you don’t want to be limited by time and would like to be able to be more relaxed, consider a full portrait session. Your session on your terms.

  3. NUMBER OF IMAGES YOU RECEIVE: Mini typically include 5-10 digital images (anymore than that, well, then’s that not really a mini). Full sessions are generally unlimited with me, most photographers also range between 30 to 100 images. With minis, you also have the option to purchase your full gallery if you want.

REASONS TO CHOOSE MINIS OVER FULL SESSIONS:

  1. “I’m just looking for a few photos.” This is pretty common when families are looking for 1-3 images they want print on their holiday / life update.

  2. Getting a “taste” of photographer when you don’t want to invest in a full experience. This is a great entry point if you’re wondering what professional photography sessions are like and if you want one in the future.

  3. “I want to get beautiful images of my family as my kids grow.” I have a few clients that book MULTIPLE mini sessions throughout the year to help document their little ones as they grow quickly and change.

REASONS TO CHOOSE A FULL SESSION OVER MINIS:

  1. Candid moments over “posed” shots. Since minis are rapid fire, we do go through quick succession of “poses” and then try to get a candid shots as I’m able. For full sessions, the vibe is much more relaxed and I plan and create a workflow to help achieve those candid photos so many clients love. It does take a little thought and planning to get some even more stellar images, you’d be surprised.

  2. Your kids may take longer to warm up to strangers. If you think your kids may not show off their full personalities in 15 minutes a longer session may be the best fit. This is a good way to not feel pressured by time and give them a chance to warm up a bit.

  3. You have a specific location or date in mind. Mini sessions are held at predetermined times and locations a few times a year so may be difficult to plan around if you have a busy schedule. Full session are completely tailored to you and your life.

Have questions on any of this or looking to collaborate together on a full session just for you? I’m an open book! Check out my Family Sessions (you book when you want) or see if a Mini Session (select dates + location) will work for you.
